Have you ever felt helpless when someone is going through a tough time?

If someone cut their leg, would you know how to deal with it?

I am guessing most people would say no to the first question but yes to the 2nd question.

All I ever hear about is physical Health first aid but you hardly hear about Mental Health First Aid though this is becoming more common.

Both are as important and I feel like everyone especially in a management role should at least be trained on both these.

Last week I went to The Lucy Rayner Foundation and took part in their Mental Health First Aid training which is set up through MHFA ENGLAND.

After a few days of reflecting and looking back, I felt It was very helpful to get a better understanding on how to help someone who is in crisis.

We are not there to fix but we are there to be the person who can support someone in that moment until the professionals take over.

The same with if someone cut their leg, we would help and keep the person safe until the paramedics took over.

The course was 2 days and we learned about some of the illnesses linked to Mental Health, we learned about how to speak with someone but also the importance of self care and the effects of stress.

As a Mental Health First Aider we use the following action plan with helping someone.

ALGEE

Approach, assess and assist with any crisis.

Listen non-judgmentally

Give support and information

Encourage appropriate professional help

Encourage other support.

In the room there was 8 of us taking part in this training and at the end of the 2 days, we all passed and got our certificates.

Massive congratulations to everyone who was involved in this.

I want to do a special shout out to Becky Rayner for setting it up 🥰

Due to the timings and wanting to spend some normal time in the office I stayed an extra evening so I could catch up on some work on the Wednesday.

On the Monday evening, we hosted a crazy golf event for those aged 17-20 and it was a massive success.

We had about 23 people take part and as people arrived we set people up in groups getting to know each other.

I felt this was a great thing to do and met some amazing people.

Recently the charity launched the Y.E.P Surrey and this falls under that project.

Y.E.P stands for Youth Empowerment Programme.

To find out more about this, please visit their social media account.

On Wednesday, we had a good few hours catching up on some ongoing work that we are currently doing but also sharing new ideas.

Thank you to everyone in the office who looked after me, I love spending time with you all.

Can't wait to make our ideas a reality soon.

Me receiving my certificate from the Rayner team
